Neil’s route into directing began slightly sideways. After studying English Literature at Middlesex University, he ended up in Hong Kong, working for music station Channel [V], writing, directing and editing music shows. Highlights included filming Björk pretending to be an owl and eating deep-fried pig intestines with David Hasselhoff.
Back in London, Neil worked at MTV UK, making award-winning promos, idents and short-form commercials for their On Air department, before joining E4 at launch. As Creative Director, he helped shape the channel’s branding, look and identity, writing and directing on-air campaigns for shows including Skins and Black Mirror that picked up several D&AD Pencils along the way.
Since moving into directing commercials full-time, he has worked with brands including McDonald’s, Amazon, British Airways, Cadbury, John Lewis, Samsung and Sky. His films often centre on naturalistic, believable performances but he’s just as comfortable working in more visual, VFX-heavy territory.
His work has been awarded by D&AD, British Arrows, Creative Circle and selected for the APA Collection.
Neil lives in London with his family and a slightly chaotic dog.
